Mandalas

The word mandala is of Sanskrit origin. It describes a symbolic representation of the Universe in the Buddhist and Hindu traditions.

The Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung spoke of mandalas representing ‘the Self, the wholeness of the personality’.¬†He experienced an urge to draw mandalas during periods of intense personal growth, and thought that they signalled a rebalancing within the psyche to produce a more complex, stable and better integrated personality.
